AFL 2019: Carlton Blues forward Alex Fasolo announces retirement image

Alex Fasolo has announced his retirement from the AFL after joining the Carlton Blues from Collingwood at the end of last year.

The 27-year-old forward played 101 games for the Magpies across eight seasons, kicking 133 goals for the famous club, before joining Carlton as a delisted free agent in the off-season exchange period.

The 2011 third-round draft selection had a rocky start to his life as a Blue, after breaking his arm in an Australia Day accident back in January.

He's managed just three games for the club this season.

Announcing his decision to hang up the boots on Friday, Fasolo said he would depart the game proud of his career achievements.

“I am content with my decision to leave the game having played nine years at the highest level,” Fasolo said.

“I want to thank the Carlton Football Club for giving me the opportunity to continue my career for an additional year and also say thank you to Collingwood for giving me my start and the initial chance to live out my dream.”

Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni commended Fasolo for his contribution.

“To play over 100 games across nine seasons in the AFL is something Alex should be incredibly proud of,” Silvagni said.

“We would like to congratulate Alex on his career and wish him all the best as he enters the next stage of his life.”

Fasolo will run out for his final game in the VFL for the Northern Blues against Sandringham on Sunday.
