The Adelaide Crows have poached Gaelic football star Cathal McShane, who will join the club this month.

Edging out the Brisbane Lions, who reportedly offered the Irishman a two-year contract, the Crows will give McShane an opportunity to train with the club this pre-season.

Last year's top goal scorer in the All-Ireland Championship playing for Tyrone, and an All-Star award winner, McShane is described by Irish outlet The42 as a "physical specimen who is strong in the air and nimble on the ground for his size."

McShane attended a trial at the AFL's Europe Combine back in 2014, but after a breakout 2019 has his sights firmly set on establishing himself as an AFL player.

Crows' list manager Justin Reid confirmed the club would be flying out McShane to commence training with the club this month.

“We’re looking forward to Cathal joining our pre-season training program and getting to know him a bit better,” Reid said.

“He has the physical attributes, coming in at a touch over 190 centimetres. He’s also strong in the air and can kick on both feet.

“Once he lands in Adelaide, it’ll provide the opportunity to understand more about our Club, our philosophies and what our program looks like.”
