Valentine Holmes has shown off his impressive catching skills while in training with the Jets.

The New York NFL franchise shared a video to their social media channels featuring the former NRL star catching five balls one after the other.

Holmes even recovered the final one by kicking the ball up to himself to complete the catch.

The former Sharks, Maroons and Kangaroos outside back is nearing a crucial juncture in his bid to play in the NFL.

Holmes has featured in two pre-season games for the Jets so far, impressing in his debut but failing to make a significant impact on limited opportunities in the second.

The 24-year-old's next chance to make an impression is on Sunday (9:30am AEST), when the Jets meet New Orleans in the third pre-season fixture.

One final pre-season match follows, against the Eagles next Friday, before the Jets will announce their 53-man roster, with Holmes among those players facing a nervous wait.

Holmes faces a tough task to make the cut, with several other players vying for the same role.

Despite the pressure, the Queenslander has reportedly settled in with his potential teammates, with running back Ty Montgomery singing his praises.

"I had to think about it one day, and I was like 'who is Valentine Holmes?'" Montgomery said in a video the Jets posted to their YouTube channel.

"So I looked him up and I've come to find out that he's so famous in Australia that he's like the LeBron James of Australia or something.

"I can't wait to see him on the field. He runs really strong, he broke a lot of tackles, he's fast.

"I can't wait to watch him play."
