Aussie Michael Dickson will become one of the highest paid punters in the NFL after signing a four-year contract extension with Seattle Seahawks.

The 25-year-old put pen to paper on a four-year deal, worth up to US$16 million (AU$21 million), according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Dickson's contract upgrade brings his pay packet more in line with his on-field output, which consistently sees him among the league's best performing punters.

In three seasons in Seattle, Dickson set a franchise record in average yards per punt in 2018 as a rookie, winning All Pro selection the same season.

He'd go on to break his own average yards record in 2020, cementing himself as a key special teams asset for the powerhouse Seahawks outfit.

Formerly part of the Sydney Swans Academy, Dickson made the switch to American Football in 2015, lining up for the University of Texas via punting development program Prokick Australia.

In his final outing for the Longhorns, Dickson achieved the rare feat of being named MVP in a bowl game as a punter.

Seattle clearly liked what they saw and traded up to the draft him in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft.
