While most Australia-based American football fans were patiently waiting for Valentine Holmes to get a couple of minutes of game time for the Jets against the Saints in a pre-season match on Sunday morning, tattooed Aussie punter Lou Hedley was already turning heads in his debut for the University of Miami.

Listed as 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, Hedley is huge for a punter, and has seriously impressive inkwork and a powerful moustache to back it up.

Signed by Miami in February, Hedley moved to the US in 2017, saying at the time that the first game of American football he'd ever seen was the first one he'd actually played in.

Originally from Mandurah in Western Australia, he grew up playing Aussie rules.

He was also a scaffolder by trade until he decided to give gridiron a crack and moved to the States in 2017.

He was given his first taste of on-field action for the Hurricanes against Florida on Sunday morning and left an instant and lasting impression on America.

For the record, Hedley got his first punt away under pressure for 43 yards.
