A three-goal third quarter has seen the Western Bulldogs triumph 27-21 over the Brisbane Lions in the 2018 AFLW grand final at Ikon Park.

Brisbane bagged the only goal of a first-half hampered by wet weather before the Bulldogs sprung to life in the third quarter nailing a trio of quick goals that set them up for the win.

Staring down the barrel of consecutive grand final defeats having fallen to the Adelaide Crows by six points in 2017, the Lions dug deep in the fourth.

They twice clawed to within six points of the Dogs but couldn't close the gap in a desperate final minutes.

After finishing the season four points clear of Brisbane, the result was perhaps a fitting one as the Footscray club claimed their first AFLW title.

It marks a remarkable turn around for the club which finished its' inaugural year in sixth with just two wins to their name.

The Bulldogs were also without their suspended captain Katie Brennan who has been fighting against a two-game suspension.

In her place, Monique Conti in particular stepped up as she was awarded player of the match for her efforts.
