Sydney Swans defender Dane Rampe was allowed to climb on the goalpost in an attempt to shake it as Bombers midfielder David Myers attempted what would have been the game-winning goal after the siren on Friday night.

Footage has emerged of Rampe leaping onto the upright as Myers’ attempt from around 60m out was in flight.

The shot fell short as the Swans hung on for a five-point victory over the Bombers at the SCG.

Umpire Andre Gianfagna could be heard yelling, ‘Down, down’, to Rampe, who appeared to fall off the goalpost after around three seconds.

But it appears he was lucky not to concede a free kick at the centre of the goal square, which would have almost certainly handed the Bombers a one-point victory.

AFL rule 17.11 states: “A Free Kick shall be awarded against a Player or Official who intentionally shakes a goal or behind post (either before or after a Player has disposed of the football).”

The rule adds that the player ‘who was about to or who has Kicked for Goal shall take the Free Kick at the centre of the Goal Line’.

While Rampe was unable to stay on the goalpost long enough to actively shake it, replays show the upright shook as a result of his attempts to climb it as Myers’ attempt sailed through the air.

The fiery Swans defender was involved in a second bizarre incident on Friday night after he was heard telling an umpire, 'You talk like a little girl' after Rampe conceded a free kick.
