Discarded Geelong forward Daniel Menzel is on Sydney’s radar to be picked up before the end of the delisted free agent period, which opens on Thursday.

The Swans have been showing interest in a few players still looking for a home, including Richmond premiership forward Jacob Townsend and Fremantle midfielder Cam Sutcliffe.

Townsend and Sutcliffe both met with Sydney officials late last week.

Menzel has been attracting attention from around the country since being cut by the Cats after 74 games in nine seasons, but his long injury history has clubs wary.

The Swans have spoken to the 27-year-old and admit they are interested in recruiting him if he passes fitness testing.

"There's a possibility," Sydney list manager Kinnear Beatson told SEN Breakfast on Thursday morning.

"Daniel is heading back to Melbourne soon and we will have a medical done on him. Once we've got all the facts, we'll make a decision on which way we go there."

The Swans have been active in the post-season but enter the draft without a first pick till mid-second round, so they are keen to bolster their list with proven experienced talent.

They have five draft selections between 26 and 40, stockpiled to ensure they can meet the required points needed for exciting father–son recruit Nick Blakey.

“He’s about 195cm now, a quick, left foot kick, (and) in time he’ll become a forward,” Beatson said of Blakey.

“I think he’d sits somewhere between four and ten (in the draft).”
