Sledge of the season? Sydney Swans defender Dane Rampe roasts umpire over Clarkson-McLachlan meeting image

Sydney Swans backman Dane Rampe is regarded as one of the best defenders in the AFL.

However, his quick wit was a skill one umpire Nick Foot didn't see coming.

Rampe was penalised for a hold on Carlton youngster Charlie Curnow as he tried to lead for the ball.

Rampe was far from pleased, firing the quip at the umpire, "Clarko will be happy with that. Did you have a coffee with him too?"

That was a reference to Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson, who was widely panned after he held a secret catch-up with AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan after he complained about Swans' blocking tactics in defence.

Clarkson had several detractors over his meeting with McLachlan, including Sydney coach John Longmire and Geelong coach Chris Scott.

Twitter users following the game responded with glee at Rampe's effort, which left umpire Foot with a grimace, to say the least.
