St Kilda’s last-quarter fightback win against Gold Coast on Saturday brought a bit of sunshine to the club, but the clouds came back over on Sunday, both literally and metaphorically.

The Saints VFL side Sandringham went goalless throughout a match for the first time in its 89-year history.

The Zebras lost 0.9 (9)  to Williamstown 11.11 (77) in atrocious conditions, despite featuring senior players like Sam Gilbert, Josh Bruce and Jack Lonie.

The overall season for Sandringham had been looking better than the Saints’ senior team’s, with four wins from the first nine games, but obviously they are not a wet-weather team.

There was a strong wind blowing at Williamstown Football Ground which the Zebras had at their backs for the first quarter, but unfortunately they wasted their opportunities and went to the break leading 0.5 to the Seagulls 0.0.

From their everything but the wind turned around.

It’s just as well the seniors got up against the Suns as there doesn’t appear to much pressure being put on the players to hold their spots.
