He’s a Brownlow favourite but Robbie Gray’s chance at the best and fairest will be shot with one more slip up.

Gray accepted a $1500 fine today for rough conduct on Geelong defender Tom Ruggles that was eerily similar to one just six days earlier involving GWS captain Callan Ward; behind play with an intentional shot to the body.
The shot on Ward cost Gray a $1,000 fine but another low-level offense will cost the Port standout much more.
While carry-over points are gone – replaced with a fine for low-level offenses – three offenses raises the stakes to a $2500 shot to the wallet and a one match suspension.
In Gray's last 7 quarters of football: 30 possessions, 5 FA, 2 dog acts behind play. I'm not convinced it's an injury holding Robbie back.

Fremantle star and eventual Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe famously walked a tightrope for the final two months of last season after committing two low-level offences inside the first 15 rounds.

Despite what in-game commentary from the Twitter morality police would have you believe, Gray has never been suspended before and his only black mark is a tripping charge in 2011.
