Richmond Tigers star Josh Caddy in doubt for Round 1 after injury setback image

Richmond star Josh Caddy is in doubt for the Tigers’ AFL season-opener against Carlton at the MCG due to ankle soreness.

The Tigers on Friday revealed they have placed the 26-year-old forward/midfielder ‘on light training duties for two-to-three weeks after experiencing ankle soreness’.

Caddy had his ankle surgically repaired at the end of the 2018 campaign and had been training strongly before suffering an untimely setback this week.

“Josh has been having a terrific pre-season and we’re confident that with some rest he’ll be on track again soon," Tigers football manager Neil Balme told richmondfc.com.au on Friday.

The Tigers said Caddy’s availability for the JLT Community Series and their Round 1 clash against Carlton will be assessed once he is able to rejoin the main training group.

Caddy booted 46 goals in 22 appearances in 2018, earning selection in the initial All Australian squad of 40.

The former Gold Coast and Geelong star has played 139 AFL games since making his senior debut in 2011.

Richmond are scheduled to play JLT fixtures against Melbourne on Sunday, March 3 and Hawthorn on Saturday, March 9.

Damien Hardwick’s men will open the 2019 AFL regular season against the Blues on Thursday, March 21.
