AFL poll shows Cats coach Chris Scott out of favour with Geelong fans image

Premiership coach Chris Scott is out of favour with Geelong fans, despite taking his side to its seventh finals campaign in his eight years at the helm.

A poll of Cats fans has seen 60 per cent disapprove of the coach’s performance in 2018, a season where great things were expected after favourite son Gary Ablett returned to the club.

Ablett joined Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield to form ‘the holy Trinity’ – a midfield thought to be beyond compare throughout the AFL – yet Geelong only just squeezed into the top eight and was bundled out convincingly by Melbourne in an elimination final.

The survey, run by AFL.com.au, also saw eight per cent of Cats fans vote Ablett as the club’s biggest player failure of the season, despite the 34-year-old leading the club for average disposals per game.

The former Gold Coast captain is contracted at Kardinia Park till the end of next season and it will be interesting to see if he goes on beyond that.

Scott recently signed an extension that will see him in the coaches box through to September 2022.

No doubt plenty of supporters will be ready to call for his head before his contract ends should results continue to go in the wrong direction.
