Mitch Wallis has turned his back on interest from other clubs and re-signed with the Western Bulldogs for another three years, keeping him tethered to the Kennel till the end of 2021.

The free agent was being pursued by a number of other clubs, with Essendon believed to be close to securing the 25-year-old midfielder, however Wallis said he had no intention of leaving the Bulldogs, where his father Stephen played 261 games and captained the club.

“It’s fantastic to be able to re-sign with a club that means so much to me and my family,” Wallis told westernbulldogs.com.au on Wednesday.

“There was never any question about my commitment to the Club or my desire to remain here.

“We’re a young side showing some really positive signs, and I’m pleased that I’ll be here to contribute as we move forward.”

Wallis has played 123 games in his eight seasons at Whitten Oval, interrupted by a horror broken leg that saw him miss the club’s drought-breaking premiership win in 2016.

“We’re delighted that Mitch has committed to our club,” Bulldogs general manager of list and recruiting Sam Power told the club website.

“He’s a heart and soul player at the Bulldogs, his work ethic is first rate and his determination to get the best out of himself, as well as to drive the standards of others and the team, is instrumental.

“We are thrilled that he is part of our future.”

Wallis’ best friend and fellow father-son draftee Tom Liberatore has yet to re-sign with the club and could explore his options under free agency.
