Legendary coach Mick Malthouse was one of six men inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in a gala event at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium on Tuesday night.

The 65-year-old won a premiership with Richmond as a player but is best remembered for his coaching feats following a remarkable career.

Malthouse’s coaching odyssey began at Footscray in 1984 before he travelled to Perth to join the West Coast Eagles in 1990.

He delivered the first of two premierships in his 10 seasons at the Eagles in 1992 and also guided the club to the 1994 flag.

Malthouse returned to Melbourne in 2000 for a 12-year stint in charge of Collingwood, earning the third and final premiership of his coaching career in 2010.

He retired in 2015 after three years at the helm of Carlton as the most prolific coach in VFL/AFL history having coached 718 games – four more than Jock McHale.

St Kilda legend Trevor Barker, Brownlow medal winner Brad Hardie, Carlton great Ken Hunter, South Adelaide’s Jim Deane and former AFL Chairman Ron Evans were the other inductees on Tuesday night.
