Reigning club champion Lachie Hunter has signed a five-year contract extension with the Western Bulldogs on the eve of the 2019 AFL season.

The lucrative new deal will see the star midfielder remain at the club for a further six seasons, until the end of 2024.

Hunter’s bumper new deal was announced at the Bulldogs’ season launch on Tuesday night, with the 24-year-old relieved to have secured his long-term future.

“I’ve clearly wanted to play for this club my whole life, and to be able to do that over an extended period now is a really good feeling,” Hunter said.

“I’m super happy to be here until just around that 30 mark, and a few more once I get there. Hopefully I can repay the faith over the next five years.

“I cherish every time I get to run out in the Bulldogs guernsey.  It’s something I definitely don’t take for granted.

“I just love everyone at the club so much, and it’s such a great place to work.”

Hunter has played 105 games and booted 52 goals since making his senior debut as a 19-year-old against Richmond in Round 13 of the 2013 season.

He is coming off a career-best season in 2018 which saw him average a tick under 30 disposals a game and finish an impressive eighth in the AFL for total effective disposals.
