Collingwood has handed Jordan De Goey a $25,000 suspended fine for his behaviour in Bali.

The club issued a public statement following the incident, which read:

The Collingwood Football Club strongly condemns the disrespectful conduct of player Jordan De Goey shown in footage taken in Bali where he chose to spend the mid-season bye period.

Jordan is currently undergoing a counselling program which he began earlier this year together with the club psychologist to further continue his awareness of himself and improve his behaviours and decision-making off the football field.

In addition to that counselling program, Jordan will undertake further behavioural education for his conduct.

Jordan has also been given a sanction of $25,000, suspended until the end of the Club’s 2022 season to be of good behaviour until then.

Collingwood CEO Mark Anderson expressed his disappointment in the actions of the Magpie player, emphasising a no-tolerance attitude for any disrespect toward women in any circumstance.

“Our club’s very strong position is that disrespect towards women, in any form, is never acceptable and we strongly condemn it,” Mr Anderson said.

“Jordan’s actions shown in the vision shared on social media are actions we do not accept as a football club, and we are extremely disappointed to see him put himself in this position.

“We have spoken to Jordan at length, and he understands the seriousness of the situation.”

De Goey also took the opportunity to show remorse for his actions and the undue attention it has placed on Collingwood, the players and the wider community.

“I unreservedly apologise to the Collingwood Football Club, its Members, supporters and the wider community for my conduct in Bali and I accept full responsibility for my actions,” De Goey said.

“The actions shown in the video footage are disrespectful and I accept that I have betrayed the trust the Club showed in me by allowing me to take my mid-season break overseas.

“I fully accept that as an AFL player, I have a unique leadership role in the community and with that role comes responsibility.

“My actions have fallen short of the standards expected of me as a person, as an AFL footballer and as a representative of the Collingwood Football Club.

“I had worked hard this year to establish trust and confidence in me to make better decisions and through no one’s fault but my own, I have undone that trust.

“Late last year, I was diagnosed with ADHD and I am trying to become more aware of why I make mistakes that I do. I have again made a mistake – this is an ongoing journey for me – and I remain absolutely committed to changing.

“I will be seeking further support to take the appropriate and necessary steps to learn and improve as a person.

“Again, I apologise for my disrespectful conduct. I understand that I have let many people down and that I have much work to do to again rebuild trust.

“I am committed to making myself the best person I can be and I believe that the best chance I have to do that is in an environment where I have the support of my teammates and the Club.”

Debate has been sparked following the actions of De Goey during his time away, with speculation that the out-of-contract player would be suspended by the club and potentially see himself in new colours next year.

Former mentor and Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley says Jordan De Goey should repay the faith and accept whatever the Pies offer the star forward in the wake of his most recent indiscretion.

Buckley was De Goey's coach from when he was drafted back in 2014 and weighed in on the matter, suggesting the pick five should return the favour of the support shown by the club.

"I was of the opinion at the beginning of the year that Jordy should just take what Collingwood offers him and repay the faith and I'm still of that opinion," Buckley told SEN.

"I suppose in the subtext of that is I feel that Collingwood should not pay top dollar for Jordan De Goey.

"I think they should offer him what they're prepared to pay him and that he should just accept that and say, 'Thank you for your support, for your guidance and understanding as I try and navigate my life to go from being a young man who has made some blues to being a better contributor and better person and more contributory to a greater environment, not just on the field but off the field'.

"I still think that if the club chooses to continue with him, I think that should be their parameters that they continue with him on and I think Jordy should be pretty thankful if that occurs."

De Goey's list of bad behaviour continues to grow, including recent charges in New York in the pre-season that were dropped and resulted in being stood down by the club.

In the midst of all the speculation, Collingwood was reported to have tabled an offer to their star player, roughly around a two-year deal (including an extension trigger clause) for $800,000 per year, but withdrew it as a result of the fallout from the incident.

St Kilda has been signalled as a club that is interested in the services of the forward, with former St Kilda player Nick Riewoldt supporting the move to acquire the De Goey.

De Goey has played 130 games for the black-and-white and has been on the brink of stardom multiple times in his career so far, including kicking 48 goals in 2018 and almost delivering Collingwood its 16th premiership.
