Joe Daniher officially signs with Brisbane Lions; Essendon receive first-round pick image

Essendon star Joe Daniher has officially agreed to join Brisbane as a restricted free agent.

The 26-year old heads to the Lions after the Bombers opted not to match the contract offer, seeing them compensated with a first-round pick, currently no.7 overall.

Daniher will take up a three-year deal, which will see him remain in Brisbane until at least the end of the 2023 AFL season.

Essendon opted not to match Brisbane's offer.


Last year, Daniher was seeking a trade to the Swans, but the two clubs couldn't come to an agreement for the then-contracted tall.

The key forward is off to Queensland to take up a spot in the preliminary finalists' front half, after a rough trot with injuries. 


Daniher returned from his groin troubles this year, but managed to play just four games for the Bombers.

He joined joined the Bombers in 2012 under the father-son rule, with his father Anthony previously playing for the club, and has since gone on to boot 191 goals in 108 games in red and black.
