The Western Bulldogs led by 41 points at the 21st minute mark of the second quarter.
Fremantle kicked 11 goals to two from that point to run out 13 point-winners in a famous victory in front of a record Docker home crowd of 58,982 at Optus Stadium.
It was a complete capitulation from the Bulldogs, who simply stopped playing for more than two quarters and had no answers as the Dockers ran riot with more desire, speed and polish.
It's been a common theme for the Bulldogs in the latter part of the season that they produce their best football in matches and then almost ground to a halt for a period in the same game.
Scrappy wins against struggling Hawthorn and GWS earned the Dogs a finals berth but both contests saw the bottom eight sides dominate at times.
Prior to that, the Dogs were dispatched by Geelong comfortably after leading by four goals earlier and even in their win against Melbourne, Luke Beveridge's team steamrolled home after a poor first half.
And even against St Kilda, the Dogs conceded 4.5 to 1.1 in the last quarter to turn a comfortable win into almost a negative performance.
Is it mental? Is it physical? Is it tactical?
Plenty for Beveridge to work on in the summer.
Fremantle's speed and desire drives them home
Fremantle looked absolutely gone until their fight and desire returned mid-way through the second quarter.
But not only did the Dockers lift physically, they also started to take the game on with dare and speed.
With the likes of Michael Walters, Michael Frederick, Sam Switkowski and Lachie Schulz lifting their work rates, the Dockers looked dangerous up forward after taking 52 minutes to kick their first goal.
Andrew Brayshaw and Caleb Serong were super-human in the midfield, winning almost every contest, while Justin Longmuir swung Rory Lobb through the ruck to huge effect, with the big man having his best game in the midfield for a long time - also drifting forward for two goals.
If Fremantle bring the pressure and speed to the MCG on Saturday, it's going to be a cracking game against a Collingwood side with a similar playing style.
