What is AFL Gather Round?

The AFL Gather Round made its debut in 2023 with all nine matches in round five being played in South Australia across one weekend.

It allowed for the South Australian and Adelaide area to be showcased and footy fans could engage in tourism to see their team or others play across the round.

All nine matches sold out in 2023 with 268,000 fans attending games, including more than 60,000 travelling from interstate.

After the success of Gather Round 2023, the AFL announced that the initiative will be held in South Australia every season until the end of 2026.

It's an initiative modelled on the NRL Magic Round, which sees the competition's matches all played in one stadium across a single round.
