Fans react to AFLW conference system in 2019 image

The AFL has decided to go with a two-conference system for its expanded AFLW competition in 2019.

The 10-team league will be broken into two divisions of five, with every team playing the other members of their conference once each and then three of the clubs in the other conference for a total of seven home-and-away games.

There will then be a two-week finals series.

To say fans of the women's league haven't grasped the new format lovingly could be an understatement, with some calling for a boycott of games.

Others seem to have trouble grasping how the system works.

The actual fixture is yet to be announced, though the first match of the season is expected to get underway on the first weekend of October.

AFL head of women's football Nicole Livingstone said the new system would allow for a fairer ladder but still facilitate growth of the game.

Judging by the social media response, they may have missed the mark.
