Chris Judd's poor-taste cancer joke gets smashed by fans image

Former West Coast and Carlton great Chris Judd has found himself on the nose after an ill-worded comment about his deodorant at an event raising funds to fight kids cancer.

The segment was quickly pulled from The Footy Show on Thursday night, but not before many footy fans took to social media to vent their anger, while others supported the two-time Brownlow medallist for what they saw as a ‘poor choice of words’.

In a cross for the My Room telethon Shane Crawford asked Judd what deodorant he was wearing.

“It’s a natural deodorant,” Judd replied.

“The by-product of that is that it doesn’t actually work, but I’m not going to die of cancer.”

Many took to Twitter to rip into the Blues board member, but there were others prepared to accept it was simply a joke gone wrong.

The question from Crawford and its response does suggest Judd had pre-prepared the line and had plenty of time to think about whether it was in suitable taste.

It’s not the first time the former Eagles premiership captain has found himself in trouble over comments. Responding to a fan’s query in March this year about Nic Naitanui’s future, Judd tweeted “I reckon he’ll be black playing good footy this year”.

The tweet was edited four hours later and elicited a laugh from Nic Nat.
