Patrick Cripps has won his maiden Brownlow Medal, capping off a superb 2022 campaign with the game’s highest individual honour.
The Carlton midfielder finished with 29 votes, one clear of 2020 winner and pre-count favourite Lachie Neale in second, with Gold Coast star Touk Miller one further back in third.
Cripps, 27, averaged 28 disposals and nearly eight clearances per game as the Blues missed the finals by the barest of margins.
The Western Australian picked up three votes in Carlton's one-point round 23 loss to Collingwood, seeing him leapfrog Neale and Miller.
The trio, along with Fremantle's Andrew Brayshaw, all held the lead at various stages late in the count but it was Cripps who was on top when it counted.
It could have been a very different story after Cripps was suspended for a hit on Callum Ah Chee in round 21, only to have it overturned after a marathon appeal hearing.
