Another round, another big loss for the boys from Ardmona, going down 1.1 (7) to 34.32 (236) against Tallygaroopna on the weekend.

While there weren’t many positives to take away from the game the Cats can be content with holding the undefeated Redlegs to under 250-points in a game that looked like blowing out.

Tallygaroopna looked a sluggish in the first half and went to the rooms at the long break with only 15 goals on the board, but they opened up in the third quarter, bagging 12 for the term.

At the same time Ardmona was scoreless at the final change, so to kick a goal in the last quarter as well as keeping the Redlegs to just seven suggests a serious change of momentum and could be a sign of things turning around at both ends of the ground.

To be honest though, Tallygaroopna probably took away the bigger stories of the day, with 18 Redlegs players slotting goals in the match. I don’t know if that’s some sort of record, but it must be close.

And 11 of those majors were kicked by players with Sidebottom for a surname, a fitting tribute to Collingwood champion Steele Sidebottom who ran out for his 200th game with the Magpies the next day.

In fact ‘Tally’ had four Sidebottoms in their team – maybe that’s a record?

But we don’t care about records at Ardmona, we care about the side sticking together and seeing out what’s been a hard season so far.

With 11th-placed Murchison-Toolamba away next week it could be a tough ask for the Cats to get their first win on the board since 2015, but where there’s life there’s hope.

And there’s always life at the Ardmona Football and Netball club.

Go Cats!
