Police are investigating after Geelong recruit Jack Steven was hospitalised in an incident overnight.

Geelong released a short statement on the club's website on Sunday morning addressing the incident.

"The club is aware that Jack Steven was injured in an incident last night," the statement read.

"Jack is in hospital and recovering.

"The club’s concern is for Jack’s health and well being.

"The matter has been referred to police and until their investigations are completed the club will not be in position to offer further comment."

On Monday morning, it was reported on both Nine News and Sunrise that Steven has yet to reveal to police how he suffered the wound despite being offered the chance to tell his story.

"AFL star Jack Steven - who is recovering from a stab wound to his chest - has refused to tell police what happened," the report said.

"The Geelong midfielder has reportedly been given two opportunities to explain the incident to officers, but has declined to answer.

"The injury isn't believed to be serious and the wound won't prevent him from returning to football.

"The AFL is focused on helping Steven with his mental health issues."

Steven moved to Geelong ahead of the 2020 season after a 183 game, 10-season career with St Kilda.

Former Geelong stalwart Cameron ling revealed that Steven was in hospital with knife wounds after an incident in Melbourne on Sunday.
