The 2018 AFL NAB National Draft kicks off its two-day affair this year with the first round selected on Thursday November 22nd and the rest of the draft completed on Friday November 23rd.

In the lead up to the draft, Sporting News will bring you the history of each pick - including who got it right (or wrong) through the years.

Pick 8: ADELAIDE CROWS

Who will the Crows be likely to draft?

The AFL’s new window to trade draft picks means Adelaide could yet find a way to move higher in the pecking order and be a chance to secure either Jack Lukosius or Izak Rankine, but in reality it’s extremely difficult to see them getting within the range of that pair.

Connor Rozee (SA): 185cm, 71kg
Rozee is almost as exciting as Lukosius and Rankine and, if the draft falls the way most expect it to, he should be heading to the Crows.

Jackson Hately (SA): 190cm, 81kg
Adelaide are likely to keep things local with their early picks and Hately is a ready-to-go midfielder that won’t let them down in the long run.

Something to tell the boys at the pub

If Adelaide doesn’t trade up or shift down the order on draft day, it will only be the third time pick 8 has been used by a South Australian club and the Crows will definitely be hoping for a change in fortunes.

Adelaide used the selection in 2004 to take John Meeson, a ruckman who played just two games in three years at the club before being traded to Melbourne where he notched up four more matches.

Crosstown rivals Port Adelaide chose exciting prospect John Butcher with pick 8 in 2009, but only got 31 games from the key forward in six seasons despite Butcher kicking six goals in his second game and following it with four the next week.
