AFL Draft: Pick 11 - who has been the best and who will be selected this year? image

The 2018 AFL NAB National Draft kicks off its two-day affair this year with the first round selected on Thursday November 22nd and the rest of the draft completed on Friday November 23rd.

In the lead up to the draft, Sporting News will bring you the history of each pick - including who got it right (or wrong) through the years.

Pick 11: GWS GIANTS

Who will the Giants be likely to draft?

It’s been a rough spring with departures of quality players so there’s no doubt long-term retention will be playing on the Giants’ minds as they make their draft choices.

Chayce Jones (TAS): 180cm, 74kg
A hard-at-it midfielder and tackling machine. Being Tasmanian limits the go-home factor, which the Giants are only too aware of at the moment.

Chayce Jones

Riley Collier-Dawkins (VIC): 193cm, 88kg
A tall, strong midfielder who wins his own ball and uses speed and agility rare for someone his height.

Something to tell the boys at the pub

Melbourne will be glad they’re not holding pick 11 at this year’s national draft as the number hasn’t done them many favours in the past. The Demons have used the selection four times for a total return of 105 games, of which Brent Grgic (1996) contributed 77. Tim McNeill (1987) didn’t get to pull a guernsey on, while Donald Cockatoo-Collins (1995, nine games) and Jordan Gysberts (2009, 19 games) didn’t fare much better.
