Most disposals in an AFL game list: Nick Daicos falls short despite mammoth first quarter image

Collingwood star Nick Daicos has fallen short of the AFL disposals record despite recording 18 possessions in the first quarter against Richmond in Round 20.

The 21-year-old finished up with a equal-career-high 42 disposals and reached the 40 mark for the sixth time in his 66-game AFL career.

However, Daicos was still 12 disposals short of the 54-possession record set by Tom Mitchell in 2018.

Daicos' effort wasn't good enough to make the top 20 with 48 disposals or more needed to reach that mark.

Mitchell features prominently in the all-time table for disposals with the former Brownlow Medallist notching three games where he reached 50 disposals or more.

Incredibly, in all three games, Mitchell achieved the feat against Collingwood within two years.

In his record-breaking 54-disposal game, Mitchell reached the number with 34 handballs and 20 kicks.

The likes of Lachie Neale and Gary Ablett Jr have also had matches where they have had 50 or more disposals, with that figure being met or exceeded on just 10 occasions.

Pies legend Scott Pendlebury currently holds the record for the most career disposals after he broke the VFL/AFL record last year, displacing St Kilda great Robert Harvey from the top spot.
