Ablett was forced to leave a match simulation training session early on Thursday after experiencing tightness in his hamstring.

The Cats confirmed Ablett's scans revealed that he had in fact suffered a minor strain to his hamstring, but the club is confident he will play in their second JLT Series match against Essendon on Sunday, March 11.

Ablett was never in Geelong's plans for the club's first JLT Series clash against his former team, the Gold Coast Suns on Sunday.

The hamstring injury isn't ideal for the superstar, who's playing time at the Suns was heavily restricted by shoulder and knee injuries.

The midfielder returned to Kardinia Park during the free agency period, following seven years with the Suns as a foundation player.

The on-baller has played 302 career games, including 192 at Geelong and has kicked 386 career goals.

He is also a two-time premiership winner with the Cats and a two-time Brownlow medallist, to name some of his achievements.

Geelong will face Melbourne in round one of the 2018 AFL season on Sunday, March 25.
