Sydney FC winger Filip Holosko is confident he will surpass his goals and assists tallies from last season as the Sky Blues chase A-League silverware.

As a marquee player, Holosko has sometimes come in for criticism from Sky Blues fans and A-League pundits for a perceived lack of influence since he signed for Sydney before the 2015-16 season.

With Bernie Ibini nearing full fitness, there have been calls from some quarters for Sydney coach Graham Arnold to pick the Australian speedster ahead of Holosko on the right wing.

Holosko has scored six goals and notched two assists in 17 A-League appearances this season, and the 33-year-old insists he will surpass his 2015-16 output.

The former Slovakia international scored 10 goals and set up another four in 24 games in his maiden A-League campaign.

"If you're winning and you are undefeated your confidence is higher than last season but last season I scored 10 goals and I believe this season I will score maybe the same number of goals or maybe more," Holosko told reporters on Tuesday.

"We have still nine games to go [before the finals]."

But Holosko insists he can still improve and used last week's scoreless draw at Brisbane Roar as an example.

"I had two chances. One in the first half and in the second half, I think, a big opportunity for me to score with my head but I didn't score," he said.

"Still 0-0 is still undefeated and we are happy and we are looking forward to play against Wellington."

Sydney host Wellington Phoenix on Thursday night with Holosko and Co. looking to - at least temporarily - extend their lead over second-placed Melbourne Victory to 12 points.

The Sky Blues are marketing the match as 'Mates Night Out' and Holosko spoke in glowing terms of his good friend and team-mate Bobo.

The Brazilian striker previously played alongside Holosko at Besiktas from 2007 to 2011 as they won the 2008-09 Turkish Super Lig and two Turkish Cups.

"I think Bobo is a great player. He does a very good job for the team," Holosko said.

"He's scored now seven goals and I am sure he will score more goals [this season]. I have a good connection with him, he's a very good striker in the box and very good with the ball."
